The various structures of the school building are staggered on a hilly sloping site and arranged on a Z-shaped ground plan, giving the building complex a loosened up and varied appearance.
The successful embedding in the landscape and the sensible orientation of the rooms, precisely calculated according to the position of the sun and the wind direction, are considered unique. It was these qualities that convinced the ADGB of the Bauhaus design in the architectural tender in 1928 and equally persuaded the UNESCO Commission in 2017 to declare the Bauhaus ensemble a World Heritage Site.
The former ADGB Bundesschule is still a building used for school purposes and is currently being set up as a nursing school. The Bundesschule is not a public building and therefore not freely accessible. A tour of the interior is only possible in conjunction with a guided tour.
