Welzow - The town by the open-cast mine offers you unusual journeys into another world. Tours of the active Welzow-Süd open-cast lignite mine start from the excursio visitor centre. Guests can explore the enormous dimensions and bizarre landscapes on the outskirts of the town in an armoured personnel carrier, a jeep, by bike or on foot.

In the excursio visitor centre, you can also find out about the many tourist opportunities in Welzow and the Lusatian Lakeland. The film "80 years of landscape change in 8 minutes" in the multimedia room will get you in the mood for the experiences in the open-cast mine. Other films can also be shown on request.

Access and the entire ground floor are barrier-free.

The visitor centre offers the following services:
  • Ticket sales for tours of the active open-cast mine and the Lusatian Lakeland
  • Advice and assistance for visitors
  • Sale of regional products and souvenirs
  • Sale of cycling, hiking and postcards
  • Hire of bicycles and scooters
